Himalayan Gingerlily ORIGINAL DRAWING on Paper

I became deeply connected to painting the Gingerlilies when I was living in Singapore and lived close by the Botanic Gardens, I fell in love with the Gingerlilies there that thrive in Singapore's humidity.

In England where my studio is now I visited a specialist grower of Gingerlilies in Chichester and I bought this one, it is a Himalayan Gingerlily from Bhutan where I took the most special trip with my family.

I managed to get this beauty to flower in my Surrey studio, it has such glossy leaves and these incredible firm flowers that shoot out little darts of petal pods as the head is flowering.

Flowers have the ability to connect us with such memories beyond their physical beauty. I love this ginger for its quirky flower heads that are a bit cone like and spiky, its unusual and I love that.
