Raffles Landing Site

£285.00 GBP

I created this painting of the monument to Sir Stamford Raffles who landed here in Singapore in 1819 signing a treaty that established modern day Singapore.

Raffles is best known for his career in the East India Company forging the successful trading with Singapore as a flourishing port and devoting himself to ethnography and natural history.

The monument to Sir Stamford Raffles is situated alongside the Singapore River between 2 Travellers Palms and behind is the heritage shophouses of Boat Quay, the Ancient Civilisations Museum and the skyscrapers of modern Singapore and the Central Business District.

The juxtaposition of heritage and modern architecture is a reflection of Singapore's history and success as a business capital of Asia.
