Little India Singapore [SOLD]
This painting represents the Little India district of Singapore, a vibrant community of trades and crafts. The turmeric coloured yellow background of the painting highlights a multi-coloured restored shophouse known as The Chinese Mansion painted in bold primary colours with decorative shutters and wooden fretwork.
Buffalo Road depicts a typical day: the traders of spices, silk, textiles, heady scented jasmine garlands for the temple and Indian restaurants serving fish head curry 'local style' on banana leaves. On the street corner at Serangoon sits the street tailor with his industrious vintage Singer sewing machine. This painting celebrates one of Singapore's most vibrant neighbourhoods.
