The Orchid Garden, Singapore
£285.00 GBP
I created this print inspired by the National Orchid Garden within the complex that houses the Singapore Botanic Gardens. I used to live close by and I would take my son for walks there and I loved watching the early morning Tai Chi.
The Garden comprises over three hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens which house over 1000 species of Orchid and 2000 hybrid species. The octagonal gazebo known as The Banstand is a favourite wedding photo spot and an iconic landmark of the Gardens.
The Vanda Miss Joaquim (Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim) is probably the Orchid that most of us recognise; this hybrid orchid was selected as Singapore’s national flower in 1981. But perhaps less known, but no less significant, is the fact that Singapore used to be home to more than 220 species of native orchids. For the past two decades, the Singapore Botanic Gardens has been propagating ‘lost’ species, and reintroducing them to the landscape.
Please note, The Orchid Garden, Singapore is the left panel of a larger 3-panel painting - The Botanic Gardens, Singapore.
