Life Drawing At The Shophouse Singapore

£850.00 GBP

This original painting ' Life Drawing At The Shophouse Singapore' was created at my artist friends' gallery in Singapore. Artist and curator Jane Walker ran Life classes at her shophouse gallery in the Little India neighbourhood of Singapore. We would paint in the shophouse gallery upstairs, the model in this painting's name is Clara.

The ceiling fan would be going cooling us from the hot humidity of Singapore and we drank endless cups of coffee whilst listening to the hustle and bustle of life outside. The environment was as much the inspiration for these paintings as the model. Shophouses were originally the live /work spaces of merchants notable of spices that brought nutmeg cloves and mace into Singapore. Today the shuttered windows of the shophouse studio open onto sounds of the Singapore taxis; the smell of lovely Indian food and incense wafting in through the shutters. Its very humid in Singapore so when it got too hot we would go out for a fresh lime juice at the hawker cafe downstairs.
