My Guide To Singapore's Keppel Bay
One of the great things about Singapore is that whenever you need a break from the city streets, there are plenty of scenic and serene places you can escape to without having to jump on a plane. One of my favourite spots to spend a day away from the crowds is Keppel Bay.
Located on the southern shore of Singapore, this gorgeous harbourfront spot features the Marina at Keppel Bay with its luxurious sailing yachts, motor boats and catamarans, the whimsical towers of Reflections at Keppel Bay (a residential complex designed by Daniel Libeskind), and breezy waterfront restaurants where you can soak up the sea breezes and sip on a glass of wine or two.
History Of Keppel Bay
Records show that sailors had been passing through Keppel Bay since at least the 13th century on their way to and from the Straits of Malacca and the South China Sea. The harbour went by many names over the centuries including 'New Harbour', but was renamed Keppel Bay in 1900 in honour of Captain Henry Keppel, who found refuge in the harbour earlier in 1848 when his ship Meander was in need of repairs.
What To Do In Keppel Bay
Go On A Sunset Cruise
If you really want to get away from it all for a few hours, Marina at Keppel Bay offers private yacht charters with experienced skippers who can take you out to sea to soak up some of Singapore’s most beautiful waterfront spots and peaceful islands. Gather up the family, a group of friends or that special someone and set off into the sunset to see Singapore from a whole different vantage point.
Learn How to Sail
For those looking to get a taste of what life is like out on the water or improve your skippering skills, the Sailing Academy at Marina at Keppel Bay offers fun sailing classes for all ages. The courses are accredited by the Royal Yachting Association and include instruction onboard one of two Beneteau First 40.7 yachts, which are suitable for all levels of sailors.
Wine and Dine Next to the Water
Relax with a glass of wine in hand as you take in views of the harbour, Reflections at Keppel Bay, and the yachts bobbing gently on the water at Privé, a gorgeous restaurant offering three different drinking and dining experiences. Privé Cafe is great for brunches, light lunches and cappuccinos, Privé Waterfront Bar offers up freshly shucked oysters and glasses of bubbly, and Privé Grill is a modern French grill with a focus on fresh seafood.
REFLECTIONS AT KEPPEL BAY ARTWORK
My Reflections at Keppel Bay depicts the six gleaming towers of this iconic luxury waterfront complex and the yachts moored in the harbour to evoke memories of sunny days spent enjoying the scenery, sea breezes and seafood at Keppel Bay. Although the original painting has already been snapped up, you can still enjoy a signed limited edition print of this wonderful waterfront scene.
