"I love showing internationally, its thrilling to see my paintings exhibited around the world, I adore travelling myself, its where I get most of my inspiration from and to see my paintings shipped off to Europe one week and further afield to South America the next is one of my greatest joys.

Life Drawings and sketch by Clare Haxby

These 2 life paintings were created at my artist friends' gallery in Singapore. Jane Walker artist and curator ran Life classes at her shophouse gallery in the Little India neighbourhood of Singapore. We would paint in the shophouse gallery upstairs, this model was Clara, the ceiling fan would be going cooling us from the hot humidity of Singapore and we drank endless cups of coffee whilst listening to the hustle and bustle of life outside. The environment was as much the inspiration for these paintings as the model. Shophouses were originally the live / work spaces of merchants notable of spices that brought nutmeg cloves and mace into Singapore. Today the shuttered windows of the shophouse studio open onto sounds of the Singapore taxis; the smell of lovely Indian food and incense wafting in through the shutters. Its very humid in Singapore so when it got too hot we would go out for a fresh lime juice at the hawker cafe downstairs"
